GROUP DESCRIPTIONS

The RACE workout group heirarchy is designed to provide workout groups composed of swimmers with similar abilities and goals. Advancement through the workout gropus is a process and reflects progress in training and increasing commitment to swimming.

Preteam/Junior I: (6-12 years old, must have completed swim lessons up to level 6): Primary objectives are to build skill and enjoyment of swimming. Learning the fundamentals of all 4 strokes will be a part of all practice sessions. Our goal is for the swimmer to build confidence, enjoy team atmosphere and become a more proficient swimmer.

Junior II: (8-12 years old & must be able to swim 25 of all 4 strokes): Primary objectives are skill development of all 4 strokes plus enjoyment of swimming. Swimmers will be introduced to set progressions, the pace clock, intervals and speed change. Competition is not mandatory but encouraged.

PreSenior: (10-14 years old, must have mastered all 4 strokes, starts and turns): Primary focus is on training elements with a major emphasis on kicking. Swimmers will build a solid base of technique to  serve them throughout life and allow the introduction of more intense training.

Senior I: (15 &up, High School training group). Focus on technique while improving overall fitness. Preparation may focus on High School seasons while providing a springboard to more advanced training group.

Senior II: Most advanced/National level swimming: Senior I has grown into one of the most competitive year round teams in the state of Colorado and is regularly a force on the Sectional and National level. Through the last 10 years we are proud to have developed a National Champion (5k Open water-Christine Jennings), multiple Olympic trials qualifiers and regularly take swimmers to both Junior and Senior National Championships.
